MLB All-Star Game Moved to Denver After Leaving Georgia Over New Restrictive Voting Laws
The 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game has found its new home and it’s full of really high people: Denver, Colorado. ESPN reported Monday night that the game will relocate to the Mile High City, home of the Colorado Rockies. According to AP, MLB management will announce the move Tuesday morning. The game is still scheduled for July 13. Originally set to happen in Atlanta, Georgia, MLB last week announced it would relocate the All-Star Game over its objections to a series of restrictive voter suppression laws the state’s Republican majority imposed at the end of March. “I have decided the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft,” commissioner Rob Manfred said at the time. “Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.” Also Read: Stacey Abrams Pleads in New Video ‘Don’t Boycott Georgia’ (Video) The Georgia bill dramatically restricts early voting access and mail-in voting, gives the Republican-controlled state legislature new powers to effectively overrule local election boards if it disagrees with the outcome, and also makes it a crime to give people waiting in line food and water. The restrictions were enacted in direct response Joe Biden becoming the first Democrat to win the state since 1992, followed up by a Democrat sweep in dual Senate runoff elections in early January, which gave control of the Senate to the Democrats. Stacey Abrams, political leader and a voting rights activist, on March 25 denounced the new bill, calling it “Jim Crow in a suit + tie: cutting off access, adding restrictions, encouraging more ‘show me your papers’ actions to challenge a citizen’s right to vote. Facially neutral but racially targeted… But we will not be defeated by their worst actions & instincts. We will spread the word, we will sue & we will win. For democracy.” Read original story MLB All-Star Game Moved to Denver After Leaving Georgia Over New Restrictive Voting Laws At TheWrap

MLB roundup: Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. hurt in Giants’ win
Mike Yastrzemski, who was a late scratch from the starting lineup due to a sore left hand, belted a pinch-hit home run to break a seventh-inning tie and lead the visiting San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. Fernando Tatis Jr. sustained a partial dislocation of his left shoulder on a swinging third strike in the third inning and immediately left the game in considerable pain. The 22-year-old shortstop, who signed a 14-year, $340 million contract with the Padres in mid-February, collapsed in pain at home plate after swinging through the pitch from Anthony DeSclafani.

EXPLAINER: Was officer’s knee on Floyd’s neck authorized?
A critical factor for jurors to consider at a former Minneapolis police officer’s trial in George Floyd’s death is whether he violated the department’s policy on neck restraints when he knelt on Floyd’s neck. The Minneapolis Police Department banned all forms of neck restraints and chokeholds weeks after Floyd’s death, but at the time of his May 25 arrest by Derek Chauvin and other officers, certain neck restraints were permitted — provided certain guidelines and conditions were followed.

Katharine McPhee returns to ‘American Idol’ and is practically upstaged
American Idol’s top 24 took the stage Sunday night, each performing with one of their idols for this week’s celebrity duets. Returning to the American Idol stage was Katharine McPhee, the runner-up from the show’s highest-rated season in 2006, as she teamed up with Season 19 frontrunner Willie Spence for a powerful duet of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer.” The magical moment, which was dedicated to Willie’s recently departed grandfather and Katharine’s late father, made viewers feel like they were actually watching a concert. In fact, of all the performances of the night, Wille was one of the few, who actually outsang his celeb partner. One viewer even took to Twitter Sunday, sharing: “Can we crown Willie Spence the @AmericanIdol winner right now?” “You can do no wrong in my eyes,” said judge Luke Bryan, while Lionel Richie called the 20-year-old prodigy “Willie Pavarotti!” and gushed, “It’s just mesmerizing to watch you.” Katy Perry described Willie and Kat’s performance as “Goosebump Central” and, after also watching Willie effortlessly deliver an epic interpretation of Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings,” advised him to stay in this lame and keep doing “amazing classic songs that other powerhouses sing.”

After new law, McConnell warns CEOs: ‘Stay out of politics’
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says it’s a “big lie” to call the new voting law in Georgia racist and he warned big business to “stay out of politics” after major corporations and even Major League Baseball distanced themselves from the state amid vast public pressure. McConnell particularly slammed President Joe Biden’s criticism that the Georgia bill was restrictive and a return to Jim Crow-era restrictions in the Southern states aimed limiting ballot access for Black Americans. “It’s simply not true,” McConnell told reporters Monday.

Queen ‘told Meghan she did not have to give up acting or embrace royal duties’ when she married Prince Harry
The Duchess of Sussex was told by the Queen that she was not obliged to be a full-time member of the Royal Family when she married Prince Harry and was free to keep acting, a royal biographer has claimed. The Duchess revealed to Oprah Winfrey in a blockbuster interview last month that she was forced to give up her passport and driving licence when she joined the family in 2018, and that at times she felt suicidal and alone. But Andrew Morton, who wrote a leading biography of Princess Diana, told the Royally Obsessed podcast that the Duchess was not prevented from pursuing her career or a private life and said Her Majesty gave the Sussexes different routes to take within the family. “The Queen gave them [the Duke and Duchess] the opportunity to go wherever they pleased,” Mr Morton said. “They were given a degree of latitude. “They were told: ‘Here are your first class tickets, pick which country you want to go to, we’re going to make you youth ambassadors for the Commonwealth.’ “They did say to Meghan: ‘If you don’t want to embrace royal duties full time please be our guest and continue your acting career.’ Those opportunities were open to her.”

China holds aircraft carrier drills in waters near Taiwan
China is holding naval drills involving an aircraft carrier battlegroup near Taiwan it said were aimed at safeguarding Chinese sovereignty, an apparent allusion to Beijing’s claim to the self-governed island. The navy said the exercises involving the Liaoning, one of its two aircraft carriers, were routine and assigned under an annual schedule. China has been steadily upping its threat to take control of the island militarily with exercises and routine incursions into the island’s air defense identification zone by Chinese warplanes.
